Calgary International Film Festival 2012 - Red Carpet Gala Opening...

Yesterday, on September 20th 2012 CIFF launched its 2012 Festival with a Red Carpet Opening Night Gala held at Calgary's Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, hosted by Alberta Culture Minister - Heather Klimchuk. As every year-the festival will continue over an 11-day period where over 150 multi-genre films will be screened thanks to new partnership with Telefim Canada, the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Alberta Film and Enbridge.
"We’re delighted to share this major Canadian film event with the Calgary audience, celebrating together with a who’s who from Alberta’s political and business communities, film sector, and of course this great Canadian filmmaker.”, said Stephen Schroeder, Executive Director of the Calgary International Film Festival.
"Midnight’s Children", the film directed by Canada’s Deepa Mehta that explores the legacy of India’s independence, was the opening night film of the Calgary International Film Festival 2012. Based on the Booker Prize winning novel by Salman Rushdie, Midnight’s Children follows the lives of two children who are born on the eve of India’s independence from Britain.

Interviewing Mayor of Calgary - Naheed Nenshi

I absolutely loved what Mayor of Calgary - Naheed Nenshi said -  “CIFF presents our very best in film beside amazing work from around Canada and the world, and it will be a thrill to have Ms. Mehta join us this year" - showing also the support for the collaboration between the private and public sectors which promote culture and connect us to new opportunities and the rest of the world!
