FABRICATED - Calgary's High Profile Fashion Event - Spring/Summer 2012

What a great fashion night we had in Calgary last week, called Fabricated. For those who didn't have chance to hear about it earlier it is a high profile fashion event focused on the presentation of Calgary's fashion designers in a high end, artistic and creative manner.
Fabricated was found by Calgary designer, Brook Fung, who's desire was to have grass roots fashion event that caters to, and works for the local designers. Brook's experience stems from designing and showcasing her own fashion line - Peeko Apparel - located now in San Francisco. After she left, her role was taken by Fabricated's new directors - Len Mastaler (owner of model agency - I Model Management) & BR (fashion stylist).
The purpose of Fabricated is to bridge a gap between designers who are early in their careers and the decision makers/buyers for Calgary's top boutiques and retailers. The show also highlights new collections from the cities better known and established designers, as well as local retailers looking for added exposure.
This Fall, all audience was walking the red carpet and networking at one of the calgary's hottest new Asian restaurant - Ubu Lounge (www. ubulounge.com), followed by great fashion show at the Theatre Junction GRAND. We could see models showing collections from local retailers - Mealan, Empire Collection as well as local designers - Holly Allen Designs&ChiChi Couture, ga.za.ba milano, Chantel Traub and N.R.T. Fashions.
Big congratulations to the organizers and all staff and volunteers who put such an amazing fashion event!!

THE ART GALLERY OF CALGARY PRESENTS CALGARY COLLECTS!!!

Calgary Collects

Friday, September 9, 2011 to Saturday, 28, 2011

The Art Gallery of Calgary is proud to announce its fall exhibition, “Calgary Collects” , showcasing a unique examination of the practice of art collecting in Calgary. Calgary Collects focuses primarily on modern contemporary art by emerging and established Canadian and international artists, revealing the diverse characteristics of art collections among private and corporate collectors. Exhibited in a traditional salon-style format, this exhibition situates key figures in Canadian Art from the post war period to contemporary artists working today within the greater context of art history.

Calgary Collects will also illuminate works of art collected by artists, gallery directors, art dealers and curators, allowing audiences to access “artists’ artists” and explore the distinct character of Calgary’s art community. This exhibition presents insights into the central figures which shape and contribute to the local arts scene; it celebrates their passion to collect and display art in the modern context.
